This past Saturday I hopped in my car and took a short trip to downtown St. Pete to shoot some fixed gear lifestyle images and here are few of my favorites from the short time I spent shooting. Enjoy!

AD 2 Tampa Bay Public Service Campaign

If you follow me at all on twitter you are probably aware of my excitement over the public service campaign I shot as a part of AD2 Tampa Bay. Well that campaign just went live and I am thrilled to finally be able to post about it! To give you a quick rundown AD2 Tampa Bay is an organization for young advertising professionals under the age of 32. Each year they choose a client and award them a multifaceted advertising campaign free of charge! How rad is that? This years client was the Bolesta Center. The mission for this years campaign was to spread awareness regarding the services the Bolesta Center provides. Our primary goal was to inform people that deafness can be cured.

To capture the images used in the campaign I chose to shoot real children that are currently taking classes at the Bolesta Center. With the help of my two good friends Chad Jarae and Aaron Mabery we set up our lights in a 10×12 room and shot protraits of the children as they came and left for their Saturday therapy sessions. My whole experience from start to end working on this campaign was great and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The designers created amazing ads!

2010 and Beyond

I don’t know about you but I am super excited about what’s to come in 2010! If you remember I made a post on my goals for 2009, click here to read that post. All in all I accomplished many of my goals and have myself in a very good position to kick 2010 in the face right from the start! My main goal for the early part of 2010 is to utilize the moment I have created for myself now that my first advertising campaign is in the bag , it goes live 1/4/2010 and I can’t wait to share it with all of you. In utilizing that moment my designer and I have already created my first promo of the year which will be going out mid January, look for a post on that soon as well.

I started 2009 with an Olympus E-300 and a kit lens and ended in a way I would have never imagined, shooting my first advertising campaign, with a new camera of course. Throughout this year I have had the pleasure of meeting great people that are just excited about creating great work as I am. I am forever greatful for their generosity and openness. Without their influence I am not sure I would be where I am at today. My goal for 2010 is to continue building these relationships as well as creating new ones.

I have no doubt that 2010 is going to be great! Keep on the lookout for more frequent posts from me as I have a ton of things happening in January and first part of 2010.

Flats Fly Fishing - Outdoor Lifestyle

Recently I accompanied two local shallow water fly fishing guides, Nick Angelo and Brian Jill, as they hit the waters of Tampa Bay in search of redfish. The conditions were less than ideal that day given the insane wind but we made the best of it and had a great time out on the water. Here are a few of the images I captured.

Two weeks ago my wife and I headed over to Orlando to spend some time with her family. While I was over there I sourced a few models in the area and put together a fun little shoot at Wekiwa Springs, which is just outside of Orlando. Putting shoots like this together in a short time frame is a blast and keeps me on my game while most of my time these days has been devoted to the non-shooting aspects of building my business. I met up with local talent Jarrett last Thursday at Passe-a-grille beach for a quick shoot. I love hooking up with local models for quick test shoots as they are a great way to hone my skills and try new things and also a great way to meet local talent. Since I began test shooting models in February I have put together a great contact list of local talent that are happy to work with me. Having connections like this in your area is super valuable and something I hope every aspiring photographer is doing.

Dana and I met up for a quick shoot this past weekend in downtown St. Pete and had a blast minus the insane heat we had to deal with. I have to give props to Dana for being such a trooper despite the heat she kept a smile on her face even when I asked her to jog past me a million times just to make sure I got the shot.

Defining your style and discovering what you want to shoot.

I have been thinking about those two things a lot lately. They are possibly the two most important things a photographer needs to do in order to be successful in the photography business. First, your style is what defines you as a photographer and also allows you to differentiate yourself in a very crowded market. Second, by discovering what it is you truly love to shoot you can put all your energy and focus into that specific niche of photography.

I had no idea what types of photography really appealed to me when I first started shooting I just new that I loved taking pictures. Over time though, I slowly began to develop a certain fondnessess for lifestyle oriented commercial and editorial photography with a little bit of travel photography thrown in there.

My love for lifestyle imagery became apparent when I began getting bored shooting inanimate objects, I craved something more challenging and unpredictable i.e. people. In addition to figuring out what it is I wanted to shoot by getting out there and shooting to begin with I also found myself spending tons of time on the web and at Barnes and Noble looking at magazines and researching photography.

Through all of the countless hours I spent on the internet and pouring over magazines like GQ, Esquire, Details and many others I developed an eye for the type of photography I was drawn to and not to mention I became extremely motivated to shoot as much as possible. Now here I am a little over 18 months since picking up a camera seriously for the first time with a pretty decent body of work so far but still a ways to go.

Now I encourage you to get your asses out there and shoot as much as you possibly can! Also, become obsessed with photography to the point that it consumes your every thought because without that passion and desire you are not going to go far as a photographer.

What can I say about Madrid other that WOW! Madrid is so full of culture it oozes it. The citizens of Madrid live life to its fullest. They eat well, drink well, and most importantly they cherish what is really important in life like sharing great moments with the people closest to you. Needless to say Madrid is one of my favorite cities in the world and one I plan on visiting again and again. I hope you enjoy the images!

Florence

Here is a landscape image I shot of Florence with my 50mm. Normally I do not shoot landscapes with my 50mm but rather with my 20mm. I prefer the 20mm due to its wide angle and the awesome natural vignette it gives the images I make with it. The reason I was not able to to use the 20mm was because its focusing mechanism broke about 5 days into our trip, thus I was only able to use it while we were in Barcelona and Cinque Terre. For the remainder of our trip I was left with my 50mm and 70-200mm.

Orvieto, Umbria Region of Italy

During our trip through Italy and Spain my wife and I stopped of in Orvieto for a night. Three years ago my wife studied in Orvieto for 4 months and has wanted to go back ever since. Orvieto is the quintessential Italian town. It’s perched high above the Umbrian landscape on a tufa plateau and can be seen from miles away. The citizens of Orvieto stay true to their Italian roots and were perhaps some of the most polite people we met throughout our travels. Here are a few images from our time in Orvieto.

I finally have internet after a three day hiatus in the hills of northern Italy, thank god! Our trip is going great so far, our first stop was Barcelona, then we spent a few days in Cinque Terre and now we are in Florence. Below are some of my favorite images from Barcelona.
